Juvederm FAQ

Learn More About Juvederm Injections

How much do Juvederm® fillers cost?

Syringes of Juvederm® filler range in cost from $500-$800 depending on the type. The cost that a patient pays for a Juvederm® injection depends on that individual patient’s needs. To find out what the average cost of dermal filler injections at the Centre for Pure Skin, CLICK HERE and complete the form to receive a quote.

How does Juvederm® work? What is it made of?

Dermal fillers like Juvederm® are used to treat areas that have lost volume throughout time or are lacking volume due to genetic factors. They can smooth creases, lift folds, and contour areas that are flat or hollow. They literally “fill” the treated area to create a smoother and more youthful appearance. Juvederm® fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid molecules (a water loving substance found naturally in the body), that have been specially formulated to treat these areas of concern.

How long do Juvederm® fillers last?

Longevity depends on the type of filler product selected, the area treated, and the individual patient. Juvederm fillers can last from six months to two years. It’s important for patients to discuss all of their aesthetic goals with us during their initial consultation.

Will it look obvious that I have had Juvederm® injections? When will I see results?

Results Juvederm injections are immediate, and yours can be as subtle or dramatic as you choose based on the volume of product used. Our skilled injection specialists administer thousands of aesthetic injections each year with fabulous results.* One consideration to note is that while bruising is usually minimal, it is always a potential risk; therefore, it is not wise to get treated immediately before a big event.

What are the side effects and risks associated with Juvederm®? Is Juvederm® safe?

The risks associated with Juvederm® injections are low and it is considered safe. The most common side effect is bruising which will generally resolve after a few days. Discomfort is minimal, as you can be pre-treated with topical numbing cream. While risk of allergic reaction is very rare, make sure to inform your injection specialist of any allergies you may have.

Dysport FAQ

Learn More About Dysport®

How much do Dysport® injections cost?

Dysport® injection costs are unique to each patient’s needs such as the area being treated and the severity of the muscle movement in that area. To receive a quote on what an average patient pays for wrinkle reducer injections, please CLICK HERE and complete the form on our price estimator page.

How long does it take for my Dysport® Injection to work? How long do the results last?

For most patients Dyport® begins to work in just a few days (typically 2-4). In rare cases, it could take up to two weeks to see results. We encourage any patient who is concerned with their treatment results to contact the office. We will always be happy to see you for a follow up examination anytime within the two weeks after treatment. Most patients experience results that may last from three to four months.

How do I know if I am a candidate Dysport®?

The best candidates for Dysport® injections have visible muscle movement in the areas that they wish to be treated. If you are under the age of 18, pregnant, nursing or have a history of neuromuscular diseases, Dysport® is not the treatment for you.

Where can Dysport® be injected?

The common indications for Dysport® injections include the area between the eyebrows (glabella), forehead and crow’s feet. However, it is possible that our certified injection team may utilize Dysport® to treat other areas such as:

• Upper lip lines

• Toothy/Gummy Smile Frowny mouth (down turned corners of the mouth)

• Eyebrow lift

• “Bunny” nose lines

• Lower eyelid wrinkles

• Chin dimples

• Neck creases and wrinkles

• Hyperhydrosis (sweaty underarms)

Is Dysport® a type of dermal filler?

No, it is not a filler. Dysport® treats the muscle movement that leads to fine lines just like Botox® Cosmetic. Dermal fillers work by literally “filling” areas of the face where volume is lacking which results in a smoother appearance.

Is Dysport® safe? What are the risks and side effects?

Dysport® is considered to be a minimally invasive and safe treatment. Very few patients experience side effects, and the few that do might notice mild bruising or swelling at the injection site. All the side effects and risks of any treatment at the Centre for Pure Skin including Dysport® will be explained prior to treatment during your consultation.

Sculptra FAQ

Learn More About Sculptra® Aesthetic

Why choose Sculptra® Aesthetic over a dermal filler?

Sculptra® is slightly different than dermal filler products. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane® and Juvederm®, it is formulated with poly-l-lactic acid to work within your skin to stimulate collagen growth and restore lost facial volume over time. The results from a Sculptra® procedure may last up to two years.

Can I receive a Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment in any office with an injection specialist?

No. As of now, the Centre for Pure Skin is the only office in the Grand Rapids area that offers Sculptra® Aesthetic treatments. The makers of Sculptra® require injection specialists that wish to administer this product to complete an extensive training program, which has been completed by our team.

Which areas of the face does Sculptra® Aesthetic treat?

At the Centre for Pure Skin, Sculptra® is used to treat areas of the face that are prone to volume loss such as cheeks, temples, and areas around the chin and mouth.

How many treatments will I need? How much does a Sculptra® treatment cost?

Sculptra® usually requires at least 3 treatments each administered about 4 weeks apart. It comes in vials, and the number of vials needed varies by each individual patient. At the Centre for Pure Skin we require a consultation prior to treatment. During that visit, we will complete a facial evaluation and determine the appropriate treatment plan. Click HERE to visit our pricing estimator and complete the form to find out what an average patient pays for Sculptra® at the Centre for Pure Skin.

When will I see my results?

Noticeable changes from a Sculptra® Aesthetic procedure are very gradual. Most patients report that they look the same a few days after treatment (which is normal and temporary). Because changes take place over time, you’ll see subtle, yet noticeable, results in the reduction of facial wrinkles and folds by comparing images before treatment and a couple months following your final treatment. The beauty of Sculptra® is that results are natural and can last for more than two years.*

Is Sculptra® Aesthetic safe?

Sculptra Aesthetic is FDA approved in the United States and has been used worldwide since 1999. Sculptra® Aesthetic is comprised of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is absorbed naturally by the body and has been used for years in dissolvable stitches. Since Sculptra® Aesthetic does not contain any human or animal components, no allergy testing is required prior to treatments. Side effects could include injection site pain, redness, bruising, tenderness, minor bleeding or swelling. The types and duration of side effects may vary by individual patient. During your consultation, we will discuss all the possible side effects of a Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment.

CryoCorrect Precision FAQ

Learn More About CryoCorrect Precision

What is the CryoCorrect Precision treatment like? Does it hurt?

Unlike traditional cryogen treatments, CryoCorrect utilizes a specially designed pen to deliver carbon dioxide to the treated area. Since the CO2 is delivered at a milder temperature, the freezing process tends to be more comfortable for the patient. The whole CryoCorrect Precision treatment takes approximately 5-8 seconds, and patients report experiencing minimal discomfort.

Who can or should receive the CryoCorrect Precision treatment?

CryoCorrect Precision Treatments are safe for nearly all patients. A CryoCorrect Treatment can help men and women remove stubborn age spots and sun spots that remain even after completing a series of facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion or laser treatments. Before receiving a CryoCorrect Treatment, we require a consultation to determine if you are a candidate for the CryoCorrect Precision Treatment. We recommend patients who have a darker complexion agree to a test spot treatment, to ensure there are no unwanted changes in their natural skin color. If you have had skin cancer, this treatment is not recommended for you.

How long will it take to see a result?

During a CryoCorrect Treatment the unwanted dark spot or skin tag is quickly frozen, turning the treated skin a dark color. This dark color may last between 3-5 days, but will eventually turn into a scab. The scab will slough off during the following 2-3 weeks, and will be replaced by normal healthy skin. In some cases, the healing process may be extended up to 4-12 weeks.

How many CryoCorrect treatments will I need? Is it permanent?

Typically patients will experience a visible improvement from CryoCorrect in as little as one treatment. Most patients who have dark spots and skin tags removed, report the results as being permanent. However, patients who are treating larger spots or have skin prone to visible pigment changes, may see pigment return over time. It is normal for those patients to require continued treatments to manage their pigmentation issues.

What are the aftercare requirements?

You will receive complete after care instructions from your provider here at the Centre for Pure Skin following your CryoCorrect treatment. Typically those instructions will include the daily use of an antioxidant, sunscreen, and possibly a pigment correcting serum. These products are essential to preventing future damage and maintaining your results.

Chemical Peel FAQ

Learn More About Chemical Peels

How much do chemical peels cost?

The price of a chemical peel ranges depending on the level of peel required to achieve the results you desire. To receive a quote of what an average patients pays for chemical peels, please CLICK HERE and visit our price estimator page. Once you complete the form, you will receive and up to date price for chemical peels.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels utilize a variety of acidic peeling agents, producing a controlled injury to the skin which promotes new skin growth and an improved appearance. Common ingredients include glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, salicylic acid and resorcinol.

Why should I choose a chemical peel?

Chemical peels treat a wide variety of common skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, photodamage (discoloration from the sun), scarring, freckles, age spots and melasma. There are a number of different types of peels and intensity levels that can be selected to treat your specific needs.

Does it hurt to have a chemical peel?

With most chemical peels, patients report little to no discomfort. However, there are many different types of peels, and some can create an uncomfortable sensation on the skin both during and after treatment. During your initial consultation, your provider will walk you through what to expect during your procedure.

What kind of downtime should I expect?

Downtime associated with chemical peels varies according to which type of treatment is received. Many patients will experience some redness and flaking of the skin following a chemical peel, but many do not. Further downtime depends on many factors such as the skin concern being treated, the patient’s tolerance to the peel, and the chemical formulation of the peel. During your consultation, your provider will discuss the different chemical peel options as well as the common side effects following those treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

Some peels are used as part of a regular skin care regimen. Others are utilized in a more condition specific manor, or as part of a targeted skin care package. We recommend you schedule a consultation with one of our expert providers to determine which type of chemical peel treatment is right for you.

When will I see results?

Most patients report they begin to see results within the first few days following treatment, with the most noticeable results about two weeks post procedure. It’s important to remember that each peel is different, individual treatment plans are different, and individual results may be different.*

Do I need to do anything at home after my chemical peel?

At the very least, we recommend you apply a good broad spectrum sunscreen every day to avoid any further damage to the skin. At the Centre for Pure Skin, we offer a variety of hand selected, clinically tested and physician dispensed skin care products. Your provider may include recommendations for at home care to help you to maintain or even improve your results.

CLICK HERE to visit our price estimator and complete the form to receive a current quote for the cost of SkinPen® treatments.

Is Microneedling safe?

Microneedling is a perfectly safe treatment when performed by a licensed provider in a medical facility like ours. SkinPen® comes with a single-use, sterile needle cartridge that is built with your safety in mind. The device is also surrounded by a proprietary BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent any possible cross contamination. No other manufacturer can make that claim, which is part of the reason SkinPen by Bellus Medical is the only FDA-cleared microneedling device. As an accredited medical facility, we are required to meet the highest standards of health and safety which is why we chose SkinPen as our microneedling device.

How does SkinPen® Microneedling work?

SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second which stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process. Does Microneedling or PRP hurt?

Though both procedures can be tolerable without the need for medication, we aim to provide a calm and relaxing experience for our patients at the Centre for Pure Skin. Laser Hair Removal FAQ

Learn More About Laser Hair Removal

How much does laser hair removal cost?

The cost of laser hair removal varies depending on the number of sessions needed and the area of the body being treated. Most patients require at least three treatments, with some requiring “touch up” sessions after that. For a current quote of laser hair removal costs, please Click Here to visit our price estimator and complete the form.

How does laser hair removal work to eliminate hair?

Laser hair removal is the process of delivering a beam of light that travels to the hair follicle, targeting the pigment in the hair, and then damages the follicle in a way that prevents future hair growth.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most patients report minimal to mild discomfort during their laser hair removal treatments. However, the level of discomfort varies according to each individual patient’s tolerance. A laser hair removal treatment feels much like a warm rubber band snapping against the skin. For patients who are concerned with pain, we prescribe a numbing spray that can be applied before treatments.

Which areas of the body can be treated with Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal can be used to safely eliminate unwanted hair on most areas of the body. Most commonly treated areas include: bikini, legs, arms, chest, back, shoulders, stomach, neck, chin and sideburns.

How often do I need to receive laser hair removal treatments?

Each laser hair removal treatment plan is different based on each patient’s individual needs. However, consistency is key! For the best result it’s important that patients follow the recommendations made by their provider.

Why do I need a series of laser hair removal treatments to achieve results?

Laser hair removal works best when hair follicles are in their mature stage. However, your body and facial hair can be in various stages of growth at any given time. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are required to effectively target all hair in any given area.

Are laser hair removal results permanent?

For most patients, laser hair removal results in a permanent and significant reduction of hair in the treated area. However, there is always the possibility for new hair growth due to bodily changes such as pregnancy or other hormonal changes. Our laser hair removal treatment packages and maintenance sessions are designed to provide patients with lasting results in the most economical way possible.

Is laser hair removal good for everyone?

Ideal candidates for laser hair removal are those with darker hair and lighter pigmented skin. However, it is possible to adjust treatment plans to address a variety of patients. The best way to learn if laser hair removal is right for you is to schedule a consultation with one of our highly experienced aestheticians.

CoolSculpting FAQ

Am I a candidate for CoolSculpting?

The CoolSculpting body contouring procedure is specially designed for those who have unwanted fat in targeted areas. It’s not a weight loss procedure and is terrific for people who are maintaining a healthy weight that they are comfortable with. The best candidates for the CoolSculpting procedure are looking for a non-surgical alternative to liposuction that will reduce noticeable pockets of unwanted fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

How do I know if surgery is the better option?

While the CoolSculpting procedure will reduce fat in the treated area, it will not correct issues like very loose skin, deep stretch marks, or muscle separation. Potential patients are encouraged to explore our before and after gallery, so that they can see the difference in the results of a CoolSculpting treatment and surgical options such as a tummy tuck. At the Centre for Plastic Surgery, our main goal is for you to achieve the results that you desire. We are fortunate to be able to offer our patients both surgical and non-surgical options on site for the best possible outcome.

How long is the treatment? How many treatments will I need?

During your consultation your CoolSculpting provider will help you create an individualized treatment plan tailored to your specific goals. The length of your CoolSculpting treatment will vary depending on the number of areas being treated during one visit. The latest technology of CoolSculpting can treat one area in 35-60 minutes. However, some patients chose to have more than one treatment during the same office visit which accounts for a longer treatment time.

Can the CoolSculpting procedure reduce fat anywhere on my body?

The CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the some of the most common areas that stubborn fat tends to collect. Those areas are the upper and lower abdomen, flanks (love-handles), inner and outer thighs, bra line fat, back fat, submental (chin) area, upper arms, and underneath the buttocks (also known as banana roll).

Are the results permanent? Where does the fat go?

Once the treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), they die and are naturally processed and eliminated from the body through the lymphatic system (which means you will typically expel them through sweat or urine). When they are gone, they are gone for good.

What happens if I gain weight after my CoolSculpting procedure?

Many people, after seeing the results from their CoolSculpting procedure, feel even more motivated to stay close to their ideal weight. However, if you do gain weight, you may gain it evenly all over your body including the treated areas but the fat cells in those areas will still be reduced. Therefore, patients that do gain weight before they achieve their final result will not be able to appreciate the results as much as those who maintain their weight following treatment. Click here to learn more about fat cells and weight loss.

Is the CoolSculpting procedure safe?

The CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in more areas than any other non-invasive fat reduction treatment on the market. As the #1 non-invasive fat reduction procedure and with millions of CoolSculpting procedures performed worldwide, it is proven to be a safe and effective treatment.

Will I experience any “downtime”?

The CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Patients often return to work on the same day after a CoolSculpting treatment is completed. Some patients may experience mild swelling and tenderness in the treated area (especially in the abdomen) for up to three weeks following the procedure. We often recommend that patients take that into consideration when scheduling their treatments.

What does it feel like?

As the cooling begins during the first few minutes, you typically feel intense cold. This soon dissipates. With some applicators, you’ll feel some pulling as suction is applied. The area generally goes numb within 5 to 10 minutes during treatment. Many people read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap during their CoolSculpting treatment. After the treatment, you may feel some tingling and slight discomfort as the area is massaged for 2 minutes. Patients are usually able to return to normal activities following their appointment.

Are there any side effects?

During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations subside as the area becomes numb. Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity. With the chin, patients may experience the sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after treatment. These effects are temporary and generally resolve within days or weeks. Though rare, some additional side effects may occur. As with any medical procedure, ask your provider if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.

How much does it cost?

The price for CoolSculpting procedures varies by patient depending on your areas of concern, the number of treatments needed, and your ultimate goals. Most patients at the Centre for Plastic Surgery opt to treat multiple areas, but each person is different. We are more than happy to accommodate your individual needs and create a plan that works for you and your budget. We also offer several financing options with flexible payment plans. Click here to see what an average patient pays for CoolSculpting in our office.

Kybella FAQ

Can Kybella™ be used to eliminate fat in other areas of the body?

KYBELLA™ is only indicated for improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe convexity or fullness associated with submental fat in adults . The safe and effective use of KYBELLA™ for the treatment of subcutaneous fat outside the submental region has not been established by the FDA.

Is Allergan seeking other indications or for larger quantities of Kybella™ to be injected?

Yes, there are currently multiple areas of the body that are being tested for other indications.

What is the recommended dosage for Kybella™?

Treatment with KYBELLA™ is customized by the provider to the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile. Most patients receive one to two vials per treatment session and two to three sessions to achieve full correction.

Are the results permanent?

Once the aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA™, re-treatment is not expected. When injected into subcutaneous fat over a single series of treatments, KYBELLA™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

What are the side effects?

Most adverse reactions are mild to moderate in severity, primarily associated with the treatment area and are resolved without intervention. In clinical trials, the incidence and severity of most adverse reactions decreased with subsequent KYBELLA™ treatments. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and formation of areas of hardness around the treatment area with in the first 48 hours of treatment.

How safe is Kybella™?

The safety profile of KYBELLA™ is well characterized. Side effects may include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness or formation of small areas of firmness. Side effects with KYBELLA™ infrequently resulted in discontinuation from study (1.6% of participants). Most adverse reactions were mild or moderate in severity, primarily associated with the treatment area and resolved without intervention. The percentage of KYBELLA™ adverse reactions reported as mild was 81%, moderate was 17.4% and severe was 1.6%.

What is the recovery like with Kybella™? Can I return to work the same day?

For most patients, downtime is minimal and occurs most commonly after the first treatment session. Most patients experience the most severe swelling with in 48 hours of the first treatment. As with other aesthetic treatments, your injection specialist will counsel you to consider social and work obligations when scheduling your treatment.

Who is not a good candidate for Kybella™?

Not all patients are candidates for KYBELLA™. Patients with prominent platysmal bands or excessive skin laxity may not achieve ideal results. Use of KYBELLA™ should be avoided in patients who have current or prior history of dysphagia or causes of submental fullness other than submental fat. Caution should be used in patients who have had prior surgical or aesthetic treatment of the submental area. KYBELLA™ should be used with caution in patients with bleeding abnormalities or who are currently being treated with antiplatelet or anticoagulant therapy as excessive bleeding or bruising in the treatment area may occur.

Restylane® Silk FAQ

Learn More About Restylane® Silk

How is Restylane® Silk different than other dermal fillers?

Restylane® Silk is specially formulated specifically for lip augmenation injections. It is indicated to increase the appearance of volume in the lips, and smooth vertical lines and wrinkles. The hyaluronic acid molecules used in this product are slightly different as they are smaller and smoother than particles in other dermal fillers.

How do I know my lips will look natural?

Our clinicians have undergone years of intensive training and injected thousands of patients to ensure that lips are skillfully enhanced with an end result that is appropriately proportioned to the facial features.* During your Restylane® Silk consultation, listen as you explain your concerns and aesthetic goals. Many patients choose to bring a picture to their consultation that shows the look they desire. The specialist will then determine if Restylane® Silk is the best product to utilize for the patient’s desired result.

When will I see a difference? How long will my lip injection results with Restylane® Silk last?

Visible results from Restylane® Silk injections are immediate, however final results are seen within two weeks following treatment. Most patients say that they continue to see the improvments from Restylane® Silk injections for up to six months.

What if I don’t like my results?

It’s not uncommon for patients to experience a little anxiety when seeking aesthetic treatments. It may take up to two weeks for a patient to realize their final result with Restylane® Silk. It’s our recommendation that patients wait at least 10-14 days before seeking any additional lip treatments. At that point, if a patient wishes to increase the volume of the lips they may want to consider additional injections. If a patient feels that the lips are too full, it could be possible for the treatment to be reversed by the injection specialist.

If I stop getting injections, will my lips look different?

No. Once a patient discontinues lip injections with Restylane® Silk, the lips will go back to their pre-treatment size and shape.

As a fully accredited plastic surgery center, we are held to the highest standards of safety and sanitation. When you receive your eyebrow treatment in our office, you can be assured our staff has been rigorously trained and certified in the procedures we provide. In addition, our patients have access to our three board certified physicians in the event any complications arise.

How long do eyebrow treatments take?

Treatment times depend on the procedure selected. For Microblading, you should expect the initial appointment to last approximately two hours. During the appointment, your technician will map the brow area, determine your desired look, and draw out a measured eyebrow shape to perfectly compliment your facial features.

When will I see my final result?

For brow shaping, tinting and mapping, you can expect immediate results. For Microblading, the treatment is a two-step process. As part of your initial package purchase, the second application session is included and will be scheduled 4 weeks after your initial appointment. Immediately following the treatment, your eyebrows will appear darker than expected. However, they will gradually fade over the following weeks as the healing process is completed, revealing your beautiful new eyebrows.

Will my eyebrow treatments be painful?

Each patient experiences the sensation of pain differently. For most, the pain associated with eyebrow treatments is very minimal. We have tested and carefully selected a specially formulated prescription grade topical anesthetic to reduce any discomfort for Microblading patients. The ability to offer this enhanced numbing cream is one of the benefits of choosing the Centre for Pure Skin for your Microblading procedure.

Are there any risks or complications with eyebrow treatments?

Some patients could experience an allergic reaction to wax, dye or pigment ingredients. If allergic reaction is a concern, you may request a patch test prior to you initial appointment. In the case of Microblading, serious complications are uncommon. It is important to stress that, with all forms of tattooing, there could be a risk of transmission of blood borne pathogenic organisms (e.g. blood borne diseases). As a medical practice, we have been extensively trained on blood borne pathogens and are required to meet the highest level of standards for health and safety, making us and extremely safe place to receive this treatment.
