About Radiesse

Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) makes Radiesse a standout injectable treatment. It’s the first and only CaHA portfolio that delivers both immediate, natural-looking results and long-term improvement. For many patients, these impressive results can last a year or more! Keep in mind, results vary, and you may need multiple treatments to achieve your ideal look.

Radiesse is a long-lasting, non-permanent filler that works harmoniously with your body. It’s FDA-approved to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, like nasolabial folds. Plus, it’s a fantastic option for restoring lost volume in your hands, leaving them looking beautifully rejuvenated.

Potential Side Effects of Radiesse

As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks, and understanding these will help you make an informed decision.

Common side effects are typically mild and resolve within a week. These can include bruising, redness, swelling, itching, and pain. You might also notice small lumps or bumps under the skin or filler migration from the injection site.

Less common risks include infection, as all injections carry this possibility. They can also trigger herpes outbreaks (cold sores) in those with a history. Allergies are another risk, so please inform us of any you may have. Radiesse is not used for patients with a history of anaphylaxis or hypersensitivity to its ingredients.

In very rare instances, filler can enter a blood vessel, which could lead to tissue damage, heart attack, or stroke. This is a serious complication that requires immediate medical attention.

Before Your Radiesse Appointment

Bruising is a common side effect of facial injections. To lower your chance of bruising, please follow these steps:

  • Stop taking certain vitamins and supplements 5 to 7 days before your visit. This includes Omega 3, St. John’s Wort, Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba, and Vitamin E.
  • If your doctor says it is safe, stop taking aspirin and pain relievers like Excedrin, Aleve, Advil, Motrin, or other types of ibuprofen 5 to 7 days early.
  • Consider taking Arnica supplements two days before your appointment to help stop bruising.

After Care Tips for Radiesse

Follow these post-care tips to minimize discomfort and keep the filler exactly where we placed it:

  • Stay Upright: Do not bend over or lie down for 4 hours following your treatment.
  • Do Not Touch: Avoid rubbing, scratching, or massaging the treated area for 24 hours. Keep hats and sweatbands off to avoid unwanted pressure.
  • Take It Easy: Skip vigorous workouts, hot tubs, and saunas for 24 hours.
  • Pause skin treatments: Wait one week before using electronic skin care brushes, getting facials, or doing chemical peels.
  • Manage Swelling and Pain: You can apply ice briefly to reduce swelling. Wait 1 hour before gently applying Arnica cream or makeup. Use Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain, as it will not thin your blood.
