Superficial Peels

in Grand Rapids, MI

Our superficial peels (level one and two) are designed to improve mild skin imperfections by providing gentle exfoliation for softer, smoother skin. There is little to no downtime associated with these peels.

About Superficial Peels

Level one peels are a fantastic choice for those new to chemical peels, anyone looking for regular skin maintenance, or if you simply want to achieve a healthy, radiant glow for a special occasion. If you’re looking for a bit more, our level two peels are enhanced treatments perfect for addressing aging and/or acne-prone skin by boosting cell turnover. To get the very best results, your provider might suggest a series of treatments, usually spaced about four weeks apart, along with a personalized home care regimen to help you reach your desired outcome. We’re happy to customize your treatment to meet your specific skin goals.

Potential Side Effects of Superficial Peels

Following your peel, it is possible to experience temporary side effects such as irritation, tightness, redness, minor breakouts, or flakiness. These effects are not experienced by everyone and typically resolve within a few days, depending on your skin’s sensitivity.

Before Your Peel Appointment

We want you to get the best results possible. Please follow these guidelines before coming in:

  • Two Weeks Before: Stop using electrolysis, waxing, hair removal creams, and laser hair removal. Avoid getting dermal fillers, Botox, Dysport, or any exfoliating facial treatments. If you recently had a medical cosmetic procedure, wait until your skin fully heals.
  • Two to Three Days Before: Stop using products that contain retinol, Retin-A®, alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, or any other exfoliants.

After Care Tips for Superficial Peels

Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun after a peel. Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day. Reapply it often if you spend time outside. When you wash your face, use a gentle cleanser. Do not scrub your skin or use a washcloth for at least 48 hours.

Also, avoid using retinol, Retin-A®, alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, and other exfoliating products for 48 hours after your peel.

Your Safety is Our Priority

Your safety always comes first. Before we begin, we will review an informed consent form and your personal medical history together. This step ensures that a superficial peel is the right treatment for you.
