Juvederm®

in Grand Rapids, MI

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler that restores volume and softens moderate wrinkles for a smoother, more refreshed look. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your body’s soft tissues, so it works in harmony with your skin to add subtle fullness. Results may continue to improve over the days and weeks following treatment as the filler attracts water and gradually expands. Keep in mind that results are temporary and will naturally fade over time.

About Juvederm

Juvederm is part of a trusted family of FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers. These fillers vary in thickness and longevity, so your provider can choose the best option for your needs. Because every face is unique — and one side may differ slightly from the other — your provider may use different amounts on each side for a balanced, natural result. Your treatment is always tailored to your individual features and goals.

Potential Side Effects of Juvederm

Most side effects are mild and temporary, usually resolving within a few days to a week. Common reactions at the injection site include:

  • Swelling, bruising, and tenderness
  • Pain, itching, or discoloration
  • Temporary lumps or mild asymmetry

Some patients notice lingering swelling or tenderness for up to two weeks. As with any injection, there is a small risk of infection — if the area becomes hot, red, or increasingly painful, contact the office promptly. In rare cases, filler may be unintentionally injected into a blood vessel, which can lead to serious complications. Treatment should always be performed by a trained, qualified provider.

Before Your Juvederm Appointment

To minimize the risk of bruising and ensure the best results, follow these pre-treatment tips:

  • Avoid vitamins and supplements like Omega 3, St. John’s Wort, Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba, and Vitamin E for 5-7 days before your procedure.
  • If safe, refrain from taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for 5-7 days prior.
  • Consider using Arnica supplements and cream starting two days before your appointment to reduce bruising.

After Care Tips for Juvederm

Follow these steps to support your recovery and protect your results.

First 24 hours:

  • Avoid bending over or lying down for 4 hours after treatment.
  • Do not rub, scratch, or massage the treated area.
  • Avoid hats, sweatbands, or anything that puts pressure on the area.
  • Skip vigorous workouts, hot tubs, and saunas.
Ice may be applied briefly to reduce swelling.
  • Gently apply Arnica topical products after 1 hour.
  • Wait at least 1 hour before applying makeup.

First week:

  • Avoid electronic skin care brushes, facials, and peels on the treated area.
  • For pain relief, acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) is preferred, since it does not thin the blood like aspirin or ibuprofen.

Your Safety is Our Priority

Juvederm should always be administered by a qualified provider. Before treatment, your provider will review your medical history, including any allergies, active skin concerns, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, to confirm that Juvederm is right for you. Results are temporary and cannot be guaranteed, and additional treatments may be needed to maintain your look. In the rare event of a complication, your provider may recommend hyaluronidase, an enzyme that can dissolve hyaluronic acid filler when clinically appropriate.
